IAS Bio: What did you think of your score? How did you feel at first?

Taskeen Khan: I had no idea I would do well on the test. I was so scared that I didn’t want to know how I did. I was no longer hungry. A friend of mine told me what my score was.

UPSC is thought to be one of the hardest tests. Not many people were able to get it right away. How many times did you try before you got it right?

Taskeen Khan: I tried this for the fourth time. I didn’t make it to my prelims because of the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). I think the CSAT is kind of hard for me. This time, though, I was able to figure it out.

IAS Bio: How long have you been studying?

Taskeen Khan: I didn’t count, but I did a lot of studying. I was never a particularly good student. I used to write notes and stick them on the walls to help me learn. I always took my studies seriously and did them every day.

IAS Bio: It’s a long way from modelling to public service.

Taskeen Khan: My path to the civil service was a little different from that of other people who want to work there because I used to be a model. I also tried singing, and I used to be in plays and theatre.
I was getting ready for the Miss India competition, but I didn’t win because I was too tall. I fell just 2 mm short of the height requirement. I was very sad at the time. My father told me to keep doing well in school because I am good at it.
In 2019, I passed the test for the Haj Committee. I went to Mumbai to study, and then I started getting ready for the UPSC.

I could not continue any professional courses due to financial constraints. I even got into NIT after 12th grade, but my family couldn’t pay the fee.

IAS Bio: One of your Instagram followers told us that you were moved to try out for UPSC.

Taskeen Khan: I got my degree from a public college. I never thought of anything for my master’s. One of the people who follow me on Instagram was going to the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie to learn for the Indian Administrative Service. He gave me more information about the civil service test.
After I passed the Haj Committee test, the Haj Committee teachers gave me a lot to think about. After that, I went to Jamia Milia Islamia in Delhi to study more.

IAS Bio: Are you sad that you weren’t able to get IAS?

Taskeen Khan: The word “satisfaction” is what my name means. I’m happy with how things turned out. My family has had trouble making ends meet. My biggest goal is to do something first and then help my family. I’m happy that I passed the test.
We should all be grateful for everything we have. We should also think about how we can use what we have to help our country.

IAS Bio: Do you have a word for UPSC candidates?

Taskeen Khan: Life isn’t easy at all. We all suffer a lot. My father was in the ICU while I was taking my preliminary and major exams. But, thank goodness, I got through it. Only because my parents and a few of my friends helped me along the way.

Taskeen Khan: I mimic like I did in the play. With my playing, I could sometimes make my family happy.
